Last week was the first bout of the season for our local roller derby team. This gave me the perfect excuse to open up "Knockdown Knits: 30 Projects from the Roller Derby Track" and pick a pattern.
Roller derby is a female contact sport using the old school roller skates. The object of the game is to score the most points by lapping opposing team members on the track. Each team has 5 players on the track at a time. One Jammer(who scores the points), a pivot (sets the pace of the skaters), and 3 blockers (defence).
The jammer and the pivot have a cover on thier helmets to keep track of them on the track. The jammer has a hat with a big star on either side. The pivot has a hat with a big stripe down the middle.
I decided to use the chart for the Know your Jammer hat. I made a few tweaks to the pattern so it is more a stretchy, slouch hat style.
